Title: Project Officer 

Location: Lagos State 

Duration: October 2024- September 2025(possible extension) 

Background 

Youth Network for Community and Sustainable Development (YNCSD) catalyzes social change by engaging young people and amplifying their voices to speak for human rights through targeted advocacy to crucial players, capacity building and development, communications and media engagements, partnerships, and programme implementation. We also work on other sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, including governance and the environment. However, our priority over the years has been on Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights. 

Since its inception, YNCSD has been catalyzing efforts of young people towards ending Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and gender-based violence, through effective programming that transforms social norms underpinning these practices as well as promoting reproductive health and rights for women and girls. Part of our activities is to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted and that women and girls have access to reproductive health services and are given the opportunity to exercise full agency over their bodies. We pride ourselves to be a leading youth-led organization delivering quality programs and interventions for our donors and partners based in Nigeria and globally. 

Role Purpose 

The Project Officer will primarily provide technical support in the implementation of the Pamoja Amplify Change and MAMA network grant in Lagos State. The project officer will engage in regular coordination and consultation with the Head of Programme and Operations/Senior Programme Associate to provide technical inputs during the planning, implementation and completion of the project, monitor the implementation and progress of the project activities and ensure timely completion of deliverables based on YNCSD standard and donor requirements.

Scope of Role 

Reports to: Head of Programme 

Coordinates with: CBOs/CSOs, MDAS and youth-led organizations 

Working Environment 

Work officially starts at 9am Monday-Friday and you are expected to work a 40 hours work week schedule. 

Travel time to and from the working station is considered official. Staff may be provided a laptop/ desktop and his/her own working station depending on availability and budget. For communication, staff may be provided a cellular phone or may be given a communication allowance based on the project budget. 

Key Areas of Work 

  1. Programming / Project Implementation 
  2. Conceptualizes, plans and implements activities that support the completion of project goals and objectives in coordination with the Programmes Manager and Head of Programme. . 
  3. Develops activity proposals that details rationale, target beneficiaries, activity design, expected outcomes, and activity budget. 
  4. Regularly provides technical inputs to all on-going project activities. 
  5. Ensures results-based implementation, monitoring, evaluation and documentation of outcomes of project interventions in the project highlighting their impact on children and their families, as well as the estimation and reporting of total reach. 
  6. Networking, Partnership and Advocacy 
  7. Coordinates closely with other YNCSD staff such as thematic project leads in delivering programs in the project area. 
  8. Develops linkages with different stakeholders such as national, state and local government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector towards building a support network for the project in the area 
  9. Serves as resource person on the project in YNCSD program office – Lagos State. 
  10. Attends and participates as the official YNCSD representative to partners’ meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences related to the projects in Lagos State.
  11. Monitoring and Evaluation 
  12. Ensures documentation of project activities to meet reporting requirements of YNCSD donors and strategic partners. 
  13. Conducts regular monitoring of project activities using YNCSD tools and standards. 4. Capacity Building / Technical Coordination 
  14. Assists in development of training materials including training manuals in coordination with support from the Technical Lead- SRHR/GBV portfolio. 
  15. Serves as technical resource person for capacity building for local government representatives, providers, community volunteers, and civil society partners. 
  16. Administration 
  17. Secures budget allocation for the implementation of project activities. b. Monitors balance of budget allocated for the project. 
  18. Ensures the appropriate use and security of assets and equipment assigned. 6. Others 
  19. Contributes to the wider achievement of goals for target audience under the overall context of YNCSD in Nigeria by participating in planning and coordination meetings as requested. 
  20. Performs any other duties and tasks assigned by the Head of Programme and Operations. Required Core Competences

Job offer 

  • Reporting to Head of Programme and Operations 
  • Salary scale: 150,000 
  • Contract duration: 1-year contract with the intention of extension if need be. Location: Lagos State. Hybrid options are possible 
  • Start date: October, 2024 

Qualifications and Experience 

Essential 

  • University degree in the social sciences or related field 
  • At least two years of work experience in program administration or other related fields; work experience in the development setting (NGO) is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated competencies in community mobilization, coordination and partnership preferably in assigned project areas with experience on child-rights based and project/program implementation. 
  • Understanding of Nigeria’s system, political environment, local governance and SRHR related issues. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel in other provinces as needed. 

Desirable 

  • Understanding of YNCSD -sensitive SRHR program .
